Why was my data erased after I got my iPad back from repair?

So, in 2017, I brought my iPad mini 1 in for a digitizer/glass replacement after I cracked it and after they fixed it, I got it back erased. I sadly didn’t ask the guy why.

there could be many factors that could cause this.

Even if the touchscreen glass was broken could you use the touchscreen before you turn it in for service?

Was the iPad requesting for passcode before turning it for service?

The touch screen wasn’t responding. Yes it had a passcode.

Was it replaced by a 3rd party repair shop or apple itself? I do not see why it would have been erased unless there was damage to the logic board as well. (And they had replaced the logic board)
