Why is new digitizer/screen not working.

A couple months ago my wife dropped her z3 and the screen cracked. It was still functional, for about a week, then it started to black out starting from where it initially cracked. I took it to a couple shops and they all said it was about $120 to fix it or I could order a digitizer/screen assembly and do it myself…being tight on money I opted to order the assembly and do it myself…I've done it before with no issues, so why not? Well, the new part came in, I watched several repair videos, read several write ups, took my time and was very careful. Old screen and digitizer were both cracked. New one went in pretty easily, but I plugged the phone in to test it before glueing it together and nothing. The phone vibrates (she's deaf so it stays on vibrate only) when it powers in, and when I touch the fingerprint sensor on the side, but I have no display and no feedback when I touch the screen. Could this be a bad replacement part or is it more likely something else is wrong? We'd really like to save this phone and the data on it if possible. She's currently using an old Droid turbo 2 that has a battery issue and has had a battery issue since it ran out of warranty…same issue with every white Droid turbo 2 I've ever seen…battery doesn't last long and doesn't charge well, and randomly reboots/shuts down…so she's already frustrated that she's stuck with that pos until her z3 is fixed.

I found a work-around for the touch not working when replacing the screen on the Z3. When I replaced mine the touch didn't work and the digitizer was acting crazy. I was devastated because I only needed to get to my google authenticator app. Everything online said I would have to factory reset after everything else failed. Then I started to remove the new screen and as I lifted the screen and put tension on the ribbon cable the screen displayed perfect picture as intended, but the touch still didn't work. If I let the ribbon cable get slack and lose tension the screen would act crazy again. So what I did was order a OTG adapter for less than 5 dollars, used that to plug in a mouse to the phone and so the phone would recognize inputs. After pluging the OTG Cable and the mouse in, I lifted the screen very carefully until it displayed picture again and held that spot until I retrieved what I needed from the phone. Now I can factory reset it and it should work fine. Kinda janky but it worked.

If you don't need to retrieve any visual data like I did then you can just factory reset the phone and the screen should work fine.
