Released in 2012, the Toshiba Satellite C850 is a 15.6-inch notebook with a choice of either AMD or Intel processors. It has USB 3.0 and can be configured with up to a 1TB HDD for storage and discrete graphics.

Can the Intel CPU be upgraded

I have noticed in a lot of teardown videos (and by the looks of it in the thermal paste video) that the CPU appears to be socketed.

Can someone confirm if the CPU can be removed and is upgradeable? (I know this is likely limited to what the Toshiba BIOS allows but I am curious to try upgrading my Pentium B960 with one of the i3 or i5’s that were available for the machine at the time).

Sadly, laptops have very little room for sockets.

Your CPU chip can’t be replaced, but your full logic board could be! If you look carefully you can see there is no socket fixture in the guide.
