Whirlpool GI7FVCXWY01: Bad Evap Fan in Refer Compartment Question

Thank you for your input, but yes, I ordered the correct part which matches as you state above OEM Whirlpool part # W10276647. But, the website does state that it is a 'replacement part for the original; original part is no longer manufactured.' If you look at the pictures above, there are colored dots on the motor. Do these dots signify anything more than test markings? Is it possible that they switched polarity or something? I'm stumped and this has me baffled... thanks so much.

Bit confused by the "....website does state that it is a 'replacement part for the original..." as the links that I posted show the part number to be genuine OEM or manufacturer's part number.

Also you said that yours was a 14V motor. is this printed on the motor or just what you gather from the value of the supply voltage?

Sometimes the supply voltage can be a higher value if you measure it with the load disconnected i.e. open circuit voltage.

When searching online using the OEM part number as the search term, every image of the motor shown by various suppliers show that it has 12V printed on the motor

Hi Jayeff, - Both the old and new motor are rated/printed at 12V DC. I am getting 13 -14V at the supply wires. Thanks much!

Looking at the image it is only a two wire connection and hopefully the fan connector only fits the one way into the harness plug.

If it fits both ways then usually the convention is that red is +ve. (red on the component i.e fan motor that is)

When testing for DC polarity you can use a DMM voltmeter to find the +ve leg of the supply.

Place the DMM's DC Voltmeter red V test lead on the +ve leg and the black com lead on the -ve leg and it will read 14V

If you reverse the test leads it will read -14V i.e. -ve (negative)14V

So the position of the meter's red V lead indicates the +ve of the supply, as +ve is the default display i.e when no -ve symbol on the display.

Did you measure the resistance of the DC fan motor winding on both fans?

Using Ohm's Law I worked it out at ~34 Ohms given that the power is 4.2W as stated on the image and the supply is 12V. But then again it has been more than 50 years since I was taught it so my memory or my maths or both may be wrong ;-)

SOLVED! I did get a BAD Evap Fan Motor from the supply warehouse. When I installed the replacement, everything is working as designed. Thanks for everyone’s help on this! Stay safe, stay healthy, Tom
