My device is being recognized but a driver error has been detected

My computer is recognizing my WD My Passport device but after a suggested trouble shooting scan of the unit I receive a diagnosis that there is a ‘driver error’ and therefore I cannot access any of the stored files. Can the ‘driver error’ be repaired?

If it says it has detected drive errors let it do the repair.

it's not offering a repair.

When I check the hardware properties it says this;

Device Status: This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Try it on another computer if that does not work I'd remove the portable hard drive from its enclosure and use a SATA to USB adapter and see if that works.
