Ripped Screen Cable on iPhone XR

So I ripped the red circled cord accidentally when trying to open my phone last night to dry it out. Can this individual cord be replaced or does the whole screen have to be replaced/what do I need to do to fix it?

@oldturkey03 @tomchai I was able to fix it and everything works now. Is there anything I can/should do with the old screen? What are your thoughts on taking it apart again to replace the waterproof adhesive?

@crimsoneagle you really want to rsik tearing it apart again? I wouldn't. I'd consider it now just like any other phone and no longer "waterproof" Get a decent case to protect it as much as possible; just don't take it in the pool with you.

@crimsoneagle you will need a new display assembly. However, at this time this “open my phone last night to dry it out “would worry me more than the assembly. iPhone XR LCD and Digitizer Replacement Remember from this guide that “The combined earpiece speaker + sensor assembly affixed to the back of the display is paired to your individual iPhone at the factory, so you must transfer it from your old display to your new one during any screen replacement.  “

Hello @oldturkey03 are you saying that the water may be worrisome? My phone slipped out of my pocket into the toilet yesterday, and I got a message about the charging port having water in it so I decided to try to fix it. I ended up opening the phone too hastily and part of the Digitizer broke. I now have the phone sitting with the battery unplugged, is there anything else I should do? This is an IPhone XR so theoretically it should be water resistant. Also thanks for your help!

@crimsoneagle water immersion/submersion is always worrisome. If it was to the point that you determined to take it apart you must have been concerned about it yourself. For now you can of course just replace the charging port and now the display and re-evaluate after.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@crimsoneagle Yeah you probably made it way worse. Water in the charging port does not mean water in the phone as the port can simply be cleaned and dried. Now you have destroyed the water resistance by opening the phone, destroyed the screen and top sensors, which means an expensive repair and likely loss of Face ID.

Please read the previous answer. The screen flex cannot be repaired without expert microsoldering techniques and even then it's not worth it because that kind of repair would cost more than a new screen.
