Is your mobile phone data also being used (check plan data amount available to see if it reduces) when using WiFi?
Try starting the phone in safe mode and check if the problem is still there when you have mobile data still enabled.
If it is OK then perhaps a downloaded app is the cause of the problem. It may be prioritizing using mobile data instead of WiFi and if it is downloading at the same time this puts pressure on the phone’s resources. Something has got to give.
Finding out which downloaded app is the cause may be the tricky part
One example of this may be the Play Store app. Check the Play Store app’s auto updates setting to see if it is set to mobile and WiFi or just Wifi only
