Hi,

Does the screen work if you hold the cable in position in the connector?

If so try gluing it in position with a few small dobs of neutral cure silicone sealant between the cable and the systemboard. Make sure that it won’t move as you allow the sealant time to cure (read the curing time on the sealant tube) and then check if it holds and works after.

May be a cheaper fix than a replacement motherboard

The screen only turns on if you hold it in just the right position then you have to hold it there I’ve tried to hold it in with tape but the ribbon still slips. I have looked at getting a replacement connector on Ebay to take the latch off of but didn’t know if that would work. Would it?

Hi,

It depends.

If the connector on the systemboard is not broken where the latch is attached then it might but if it is broken or brittle it probably won't.

That's why i suggested using dobs of neutral cure sealant to hold the cable in place.

It isn't affected as much by heat etc so it remains in place whereas tape dries out and releases.

If you do decide to try the sealant just make sure that none gets into the connector or on the ends of the cable but adheres to the cable insulation and the systemboard or even the connector plastic

Hi,

Check that the screen connector pins haven't been damaged by the cable being inserted that often and being moved about to make it work.

Use a magnifying glass if you have to.

If there are bent pins etc, disconnect the battery before attempting to try to fix it.

Also check that the screen flex cable end still has all the wire contact strips showing as sometimes they peel off if handled too often
