The Salter model 1036 is a digital disc kitchen scale with a maximum capacity of 5 kg or 11 lb.

Opening the battery compartment

The screw holding the battery compartment shut is so tiny and so tight I cannot open it, despite trying very small screwdriver and smallest allen key. They are all too big!

@deirdremoylan without actually seeing it or knowing the size of it I would recommend a really good tool kit something like this Mako Driver Kit - 64 Precision Bits or even this one Manta Driver Kit - 112 Bit Driver Kit With those kits you will always have the right tool for any repair.

Dear Oldturkey03, Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my enquiry. I actually have a kit with 75 precision bits (different make, I live in Ireland) and there is nothing small enough in it. However I notice that your bigger kit has possibly some even smaller sizes - 0001 crosscrew. I will try and get one in a hardware store (I don't want to spend 3 times as much on another bit kit as I spent on the scales for the sake of one little bit!) But I really appreciate your help. Thanks. Deirdre

@deirdremoylan agree with what you are saying. If nothing else and ,depends on your town/city, a good jeweler will always have the right tools to help you out.

Brilliant idea! (My watch has a similar sized screw, now I think about it, and has to be dealt with when I get a new battery.) Thanks a lot!
