Why does power go off immediately after turning it on?

When the laptop power is turned on, it goes off immediately. Have changed the battery and charged for days and no difference. What could be wrong.

Eddie, this particular series has its fair share of problems. For example, there is the dreaded BIOS F39 issue which cause absolute failure and is a firmware issue that, most of the time, will require motherboard replacement. Then there is the overheating issue. The design of the laptop delivers poor ventilation and causes the computer to overheat. You can try something similar to a hard reset. This is simply to remove power from the laptop. Remove the Battery. With all removed from the laptop...hold the power button down for one minute. Then release the power button. Plug in the battery first...then the power cord. Try powering the unit up again. This reset will not do anything but do a Hard reset on the machine. If none of that works, It might just be time to further investigate and to open the laptop up. you definitely want to clean it of all corrosion and especially dust in the vents and around the fan. Make sure that the fan works since a bad fan can cause this error as well. I do hope this helps and at least gets you started. Good Luck

The service manual is available here.

my laptop turned on for a second or two but then turned off. when i started it up it showed the hp logo an before i could do anything the laptop turned itself off. sometimes i would turn the laptop on and it would go into windows repair mode, i noticed at this point the laptop would stay on for about 30 seconds or longer before turning off.

The charger was the issue with my laptop. when i first got my new charger and tried to turn the laptop on it would just restart within 1 to 2 seconds of turning it on. i did all the hard reset resets but it was still the same it would keep truning off. i then left the laptop on charge for about 15 minutes before returning to it and when i pressed the power button the laptop started up and went into windows repair mode, when it did its repair thing it just asked me to restart the laptop or go into advanced option. i restarted the laptop and it started up first time, it hasn’t turned off on me yet so i hope its been fixed.

hope this helps others too.

I have this problem as well. I remove the battery, unplug the power, and then press the power button for a minute. This did not fixed my issue. Next I will try testing the fan and see if it works. We'll report back here after
