Why doesnt the memory stick fit the slot?

I purchased the "correct" memory sticks at Best Buy for my 2006 17" IMAC, Intel dual core. To upgrade the RAM I bought 2 1GB memory sticks, PC2-5300, DDR2, for 667 mHz. They cant fit in that slot. The 512mb in there is half the length of this new one. and also, does this mean that I remove that 512mb card when I am adding the new memory sticks (2)? I didnt realize that.

thanks

Meredith

Hey, you got the wrong memory. Period. No debate. Please give me the last three figures of your serial number number so I know exactly which machine you have and can direct you to the proper memory. Thanks.

I'm so sorry to just find your answer. and thank you for answering so specifically. I kept looking and found the answer was to buy the RAM made for notebook to fit into my IMAC . and I did . and it worked.
