A1708/EMC 3164 — Released June 2017, this entry-level MacBook Pro retains its traditional function keys (as opposed to the OLED Touch Bar).

USB-C Port Replacement Difficulty

I was wondering if replacing the USB-C board actually requires soldering and board repair as it states here MacBook Pro Retina (A1708 Late 2016-2017) USB-C Board. A repair video for the previous model year shows a simple connector for the USB-C ports.

If you are going to do the repair/replacement yourself, why not just open up the unit and see for yourself? :-)

@propman Typically I would, however my boss would prefer to have the repair done by an Apple Tech even if it is not under warranty depending on the cost. I have another laptop with the same issue that is under warranty being looked at right now that I will ask what the repair cost would be without the warranty. Trying to get as much info as I can until I know how much a non-warranty repair will cost so I can determine whether or not I will actually be cracking it open myself.

@dcost Sounds like a plan! :-)

That is word for word what it says on the listing for the part, which I have read. I was hoping for verification from someone that has actually been inside the 13 inch 2017 Macbook Pro no touch bar. Thanks though.

@dcost I thought maybe you missed reading it. I have been in several. It's attached to the logic board. Look at image #2 of the part and you too can see it:
