My wallpaper flashes after doing software update, and cannot use

I just installed the current system update on my xiaomi mi mix 2 and when I restarted it, the password screen comes up fine, but when I unlock it the wallpaper flickers and no icons show. The date and time at top stay constant and I can pull down the notifications bar, but due to a previous issue theres no notifications bar, just the basic toolbar.

Help! My phone is essentially bricked!
