The Canon EOS 7D was Canon's first high end professional camera with an APS-C crop sensor.

How to replace internal Battery

Is there a chance to replace the battery inside the camera?

After being exposed to water, it looks like there is a problem with it. every now and then the camera asks me to setup date and time.

Thanks for any help!

Hi @mamf ,

Here’s a link that shows how to replace the date and time battery in your camera. It is a CR1616 lithium coin cell battery - example only

Hopefully it is only a battery problem and that the water has not caused more problems such as corrosion of the electronic components in the camera. (Check the date and time battery terminals in the camera to see if they are OK, i.e. bright and shiny and not showing signs of corrosion)

If replacing the date and time battery does not fix the problem, the camera may have to be opened and inspected to see if there are any other problems.

Here’s a link that explains in general what needs to be done.

Thank you so much! I‘ve always been told that the battery sits on the chip and there is no way to fix it, so I didn‘t look up how easy it actually is!

I will definitely try it...

Here is something from the manual you can follow:

  1. Set the power switch to <2>.
  2. Remove the battery.
  3. Take off the battery holder.
  4. Replace the battery.
  5. Insert the battery holder.
  6. Load the battery and close the cover.

If you need any help please reply to this answer.

Thanks,

John
