This is a Gateway2000 NOMAD 450DXL. Serial #147A430708, part # 2646751-0001. Turning on, one hears the hard drive spin up and the green lights flash, but there is no output to the screen.

If the hard drive "has failed", what is the next step? Remove hard drive and take it to a shop? I greatly desire to be able to access the files on this hard drive.

Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hank Hall  I am certain it is possible to repair but you need to provide more details. Failure to boot on those machines is usually related to a bad hard drive. Let us know what you have checked and what exact errors you encounter as well as the complete model number

Will add pix and requested info soon. When switched on the green lights flash and sounds are heard suggesting the hard drive is spinning, but there is no output to the screen. Thanks for the encouragement.

try to cehck with an external dispaly first. That way you rule out the dispaly. If that does not work you may need to change the CMOS battery since it is possible this will prevent the computer from starting up as well. Don't do anything to your hard drive yet.
