Screen will not turn

I have tried resetting the battery and it doesn't work.

I have tried with the power cord and without. The screen will not turn on. I have reset the computer several times also.

The computer works though. Because I have plugged in an external monitor and everything displayed on their fine and the computer works.

in a darkened room shine a flashlight at an angle against the screen. If you can make out shapes etc. It is your backlight that has failed. if it doesn't then it is possible that this is a bad display assembly.
