The larger version of Samsung's flagship phone, the Galaxy S8+. Released in April 2017.

Unable to open up phone for battery replacement

I’ve reheated the iOpener many times and re-applied many times (timing to make sure I’m a little over the 2 minutes suggested). I also used a heatgun until the back was too hot to keep holding my hand on it (and then of course stopped at that point).

No matter what I do with the suction cup (I bought the full official repair kit) and spudger+picks, I’m not getting even a little separation.

Make sure your suction cup is right under the camera to the right and has a good grip. Start pulling and try to get your spudger in between. If you aren’t able to do it maybe ask someone else to do it.

Ok thanks, Ahron. I heated the left side and put the suction cup on the left side. Which side should I heat then if the suction cup is on the right?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

I don't completely understand you but did you open the left side? If the suction cup is on the right then heat the right side up.

I heated the left side and put suction cup on the left side. There was no movement.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Sound odd maybe heat it more or use the spudger and try to stick it in as your pulling.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

It seemed odd. I'm very particular about following directions/recipes. Did a lot of sticking and pulling at the same time to minimize how much more heat would be needed.

I'll try another side and hope it gives me the "in" so I can start cutting through the glue as I go around. Just can't cut without having at least a bit of a gap.

Blast lots of heat on the glass with a heat gun for several minutes. Pull up from the bottom with a suction cu and get a pick under there. Keep blowing hot air as you keep prying the glass off. It’ll come off like butter

Ok, thanks, Daniel. I started on the left side since that's what I was told by the online guide. Looks like I should try the bottom (or right side as suggested above) instead.

Would really, really like to see it come off like butter.

It will. I fix the Samsung’s all the time. You need lots of heat to lift the glass
