I don’t have an answer, but just last night I attempted to use a trial of CCC and I drag & dropped my HHD from finder to the source box and POOF,
now I have to hunt for it.
Great question & await
When you are in Disk Utility
on the top bar: click view,
select “show all devices”
? For years when I was in Disk Utility I never even knew that top bar was up there!!! So many hidden in my face gems…

Hey Anthony. The solution could be a number of things. Have you tried entering MacOS recovery already?
Press and hold Command (⌘)-R during startup. Let me know if you're able to enter the recovery suite like this.

In MacOS Recovery? Or Target Disk Mode? In other words, on the MBP you're having trouble with?
