UpDate: Do not USE Rice. ( Thanks to jayeff)
“What you want to do is first displace the water—or more specifically, all the conductive stuff in the water. You can do this best by using 90%+ isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol and a toothbrush. Open your device as soon as you can, take out the battery, and get scrubbing. Submerge the whole motherboard in alcohol, and scrub away.”
I realize that this post is old. But I will give my 2 cents for the next reader.
Turning the phone on, or connecting it to power will increase the chance of shorting out the electronic components.
- If you ever have water damage, immediately turn the phone off, absolutely never plug in the charger, that was a really bad idea.
- Turn the phone off and take it out of the case.
- Dry the phone off with a towel ( Deleted) see link provided by jayeff
