Will attempting to boot a 8th gen CPU in a 200 series mobo do damage?

I purchased an i7-8700k and completely spaced that you need a 300 series motherboard. I attempted to boot it in my ASUS-Z270-A. Nothing happened, no lights or any sign of power going through. After that, I realized my mistake, and installed my old processor. The motherboard works fine still, and I plan on buying a new motherboard, but will there be any damage to my 8700k? I don’t want to go out and buy a new motherboard if my CPU is shot. Does anyone know for sure if it could be damaged?

Hi Alec,

As long as the chip is not physically damaged, the old motherboard shouldn’t have damaged it electrically.
