downloading photos to my computer

When I plug into my computer with my download cord, I get a message on my camera screen that says “PLEASE SELECT THE USB MODE and it shows achoice between Pictbridge (PTP) and PC, The message is in a gray box, and no matter what click, nothing happens. I never experienced this before.
