Why is my bluetooth distance very short
Bluetooth only works up to 24 inches away from me. Then cuts out.

Do you have the same problems when using WiFi?
If so perhaps the WiFi/BT antennas (or just one - they are used in conjunction with each other) have become disconnected from the motherboard.
Here’s a link to the ifixit Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Motherboard Replacement guide. At Step.9 in the guide the antennas are shown.

Many thanks but unfortunately WiFi is fine. Just an issue with the Bluetooth. I will check for a loose connection all the same.
