Xbox One S Constantly Freezes in game and Home screen.

I have had my Xbox one s for almost 2 years now, and just recently it has begun to act up. Whenever I play any game, it will always glitch out and freeze. For example, in forza 6, some images will stop appearing when building a car and then the game will freeze if I do anything after that. When I got to the menu to quit the game, I can scroll to the game, but when I click game options with the menu button, the whole console freezes. The same also happens when I press the home option from menu. I hard ressart the console and it never gets fixed. I also did a factory reset on it, but now it is stuck on the preparing console page at 58%. I should also note that even when it is completely off but still plugged in, I hear a little buzzing noise from the console. I don’t think it is fan because I can still feel airflow from the fan. Does anyone know what is going on?

It could be hard drive startin to show some about to break symptoms but it’s a wild guess. Some of it could also be the console overheating for some reason but as much a guess as the HD.

I’m gonna assume this is a hard drive issue. Connect the hard drive to a PC and use some system information software like AIDA64 to check HDD SMART data, most likely you will see it is flashing red to alert you to replace the drive.

Thank you for responding, the only thing is I only have macs, so I can’t really test it with a computer. Is there any other way I can test it? Also, would it work if I replaced it with an SSD and would it even be worth it? Thanks

There are Mac uitilites that can read HDD SMART data as well. 1 or 2 TB SSD does not have significant performance impact, SSHD is a much better balance between performance and price.

Thanks so much!

@tomchai Okay so I installed a new hard drive, but it was an old one that I had, so it still had data on it. I just installed it as usual but now I get system error 102. I have tried an offline setup but it still gives the same error.

There are special steps to format and prep Xbox One internal hard drives, you can't just pop it in like a PC.

Try cleaning it. It could be overheating
