How to apply thermal paste?

I have read the guide on thermal paste; however, I just want to make sure I do it correct. My powerbook g4 12" has thermal paste on one chip and thermal pads on two other chips. Can the thermal paste be applied to all the chips? Or should I put thermal pads on the two that have it on them?

I don't use the pads at all. I just use a thin layer of paste. You're just trying to transfer heat.

You might want to download and install "Temperature Monitor", I think they have an archive of normal temperature ranges: http://www.bresink.com/osx/TemperatureMo...
