Display has a vertical band on left side and white screen

I haven’t seen this one before. The left side has a black vertical band and the rest of the screen is white, Customer said the machine was working fine and she woke up to this in the morning. No spills, no drops.

It will generate a picture on an external monitor. I know how to make the external monitor the active screen from the original screen but have forgotten if there is a way to do it if you can’t get to the original display @danj can you help on this one?

That’s a broken LCD panel. Command+F1 should toggle the screens.

I'll expand a little on the broken LCD diagnosis, in the bottom right corner of the black band, that jagged corner is a telltale sign of panel damage versus some sort of signal or digital issue.
