Laptop stopped Working. Battery?

I have had my LapTop for a couple years now ( I think about 4) and it has worked great but this past week it would only turn on if it was plugged in. When ever I unplugged it then it would shut off. It has been doing it for about a week and now my laptop won’t turn on at all. I have tried taking out the battery and putting it back in, I have tried holding the power button and tried plugging the charger into different outlets.

My question is, is the battery broken or is the charger broken. Should I buy a new battery or should I try buying a new charger first? Thank you

Hi!

Does the power adapter have any sort of status LED? Like one that’s supposed to light up when you plug it into the wall?

Do you have a multimeter to measure the current supplied by the power adapter? <— this could quickly tell us where the problem is. If not, I’d try to get a new power adapter first, as laptops should boot even with a bad/ non-existing battery - but if the battery is empty and the adapter broken it’s clear what it will never work.

Yes there is an LED that lights up when plugged in which it doesn’t light up. That why I think it’s the charger. No I do not have a multimeter

I guess I will get a new adapter first and see if it works. I just don’t won’t to spend money if I don’t have to.

Thank you so much for the help! :)

Hi!

Yeah, I understand your concern. That's why I suggested a new power adapter - they are way cheaper than batteries

Yes! Thank you very much. I have bought a new adapter and my computer is working again lol. The battery still kind of sucks but I can always get a new one in the future :)

Thank you.

I have already tried taking out the battery and putting it back in with no luck but I will try unplugging the cable inside the motherboard.
