Power cord replacement on surface pro 3

I replaced model 1625 with model 1735, it charges my surface pro 3 when it’s off. If I turn it on the charger powers off? What would cause this to happen

What might cause this to happen is that you got a replacement charger that cannot support the power demand of the laptop when the charger is on. Probably too low of voltage.
