The sixth generation Maxima, code-named A34, was only sold in the United States, Canada and Mexico. It was introduced in production form as a 2004 model at the 2003 North American International Auto Show.

Hi @sandymaule ,

I've moved your "comment" to a "new" question on ifixit, so that it will get more attention than where it was on a 3 year old thread. ;-)

Get the OBDII port scanned to see if there are any codes showing that may give an indication of what is happening with the engine.

Have read that AutoZone in the USA will do this for free

I had this issue also and every time the accelerator stopped responding, I had to cut the car off and cut it back on to get it to work again. The accelerator on this car is electronic and so it is not mechanically linked to the engine. It is connected by an electronic signal. The wiring for this setup can wear out over time and when the engines computer does not get the right input, it will cut out. I had the wiring corrected and never had the problem again.
