I replaced my taptic engine, and then my home button stopped working. Did I damage the cable? I can’t see any physical dammage to any connectors, and I reseated them but still nothing.

There is a chance you damaged the home button cable to plugs into the logic board. It can be damaged while opening or closing the screen. If the cable pulls at all when you open the phone it can tear slightly and cause issues. Also, when you close the phone, it can get pinched between the phone frame and screen if you aren’t careful. Are you having any issues with the force touch on the phone?
It could be a bad Taptic Engine as well. Since the iPhone 7 and newer don’t have a physically clicking home button, the phone uses the Taptic Engine to simulate the home button click.
I would first try a different Taptic Engine and see if that fixes the issue. If no change, I would try replacing the screen to be sure that cable isn’t damaged.

3d/force touch works fine but the water damage that killed the taptic engine also killed it's connector to the board so I cant tell if it "works" or not. the only things not working are touch ID and the home button
I wasn’t aware there was water damage. I would try changing the charge port in that case. The Taptic Engine connector is part of the charge port assembly. I’ve had a fair few water damaged phones, but the Taptic Engine hasn’t gone out in any of them. The charge port however I’ve had to replace in a few.
