When I plug in my 3ds, the charger light goes on, but no power up.

So, I bought a 3DS for $20 from a thrift shop and they said it doesn’t charge. I opened the battery door and the battery has swelled up. But i thought I could power the system up without the charger…. but it doesn’t turn on. The charger port is also fiddely and I have to hold the charger in a weird way for it to charge. Could I need a new battery and charger port? Or is the whole thing busted and I wasted $20?

You could try and fit a new battery first to rule that out, seeing as it would be the cheaper option. This is because most likely unless you’re great at multi-pin desoldering, you’re gonna have to replace the entire motherboard / pcb.

But for £24.24 ($31.25) you can buy a new / used board that’s been dismantled from a previous 3DS.

So I tried a new battery and that had no difference. I took apart the whole thing and 5 of the 6 pins of the charger port had broken, so I resoldered them and now it works good as new.
