Given that it is “brand new”, it should be covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.
According to this link, KitchenAid says :
“For all products purchased in a retail location or through a trade partner website, please refer to that seller's returns policy. If you have additional questions, please contact Customer Service at 1 (800) 541-6390 for Countertop Appliances, Kitchenware & Kitchen Tools or 1 (800) 422-1230 for Major Appliances and Microwaves”.
I suggest that you either return it to the retailer or contact KitchenAid about a manufacturer’s warranty repair or replacement as it is obviously not working correctly.
