Hi aaron, are you using a counterfeit after market charger?

Seeing sparks from plug is not a good sign as it might send high voltages to your phone, thus damaging it.

If it is under warranty, send in for replacement, else if you have some idea and experience on electronics or phone repairs, open it up and inspect the mainboard smd components.
