How to resurrect iPod Nano 2gen backlight?

I moved recently and found my old iPod Nano 2gen, which I would love to use to play some music around the house.

It is completely functional, with exception to the backlight. Sometimes when I press the buttons to play some music it flashes for less than a second, but then turns off again.

All the solutions I could find involve replacing parts, which I'm guessing are not available anymore. I also tried slapping it gently (as I read here on ifixit), but with no avail.

Do you have any idea on what I could do to bring my iPod back to life?

Thanks!

By the way, I just followed a tutorial to open it up and the circuits look fine (not an expert though). Cleaning it with a small brush did nothing, the light still flashes.
