I have a hardly used Sony CDP XA-5es that does not read CD. It will load, spin and then stop. A tech thought it could be the laser lens issue. Could anyone please help.

As a first step, try using a lens cleaning disc - example only to see if that resolves the problem

In it there is information on how to disassemble the player, circuit diagrams and the parts list.
Unfortunately that is all I can offer now as the player will need to be opened and the problem diagnosed as to what the fault may be.
Contact a reputable, professional audio electronics repair service and ask for a quote.
At least you can offer a link to the service manual if they say they don't normally repair your model

Assuming that you've tried different cds then it appears that there is either a problem with the lens or something further into the circuit.
Are the CDs that you are trying to play commercially made or 'home made' i.e. burned to CD-R or CD-RW?
