battery dead? Left sitting too long, battery over two years old, new?

I am talking about the "car battery." I believe I let it sit too long without driving it as I moved and well, that's the crux of it. When I tried to start it, it wouldn't start, I tried to jump and and the horn drove me nuts. The battery is over two + years old, taking this into consideration, do I need a new battery? I believe they say the battery gets replaced about every two or so years, or am I wrong?

If the battery is only 2 years old it should not have died just sitting in a car . There must have been a reason for it dying . I have an old truck which sits for 6 months of each year. The battery in it is probably 6-7 years old and it still starts after its long winter hibernation . Try putting it on a battery charger for 24 hours . The reason the horn was going off is the car alarm doesn't like being boosted . It thinks someone is stealing the car . If you charge the battery and it charge goes away I would look for some sort of parasitic draw . Hope this helps

PS @fishie I live in Canada and we get extreme cold which can be really hard on a battery and I think i get ripped off if I don't get at least 5 years out of a battery .

I live in Arizona so this might be different depending on where you live. But for me batteries last about 2-3 years when I am using them. Depending on what type of battery you have I would say it is safe to say that if it has been sitting discharged for 2 years and it won’t hold a charge after being jumped. Then it’s dead and it’s time to get a new one. Check your local stores I know some places offer trade in credits towards a new battery. Hope this helps and sorry about the battery.
