Nikon D40 camera. I have put 2 brand new 64gb so cards in it and they go thru the formatting process but keep coming back as “card full”. HELP!

Have 64GB cards worked in the camera before?
If not, as your camera model is fairly old (released in 2006), it may not be able to handle such a large capacity SD Card.
According to the User guide the maximum capacity card that is guaranteed to work is only 4GB.

You could try inserting cards, having a capacity of 8GB, 16GB or 32GB to see if one of them might work, if you want storage capacity greater than 4GB. I suggest that you try 8GB first and then work up until you know the maximum capacity that will work.
