Replaced battery due to poor life. Phone will not power on.

I replaced the battery and plugged the phone in to charge. It will not power on nor does it display the charging icon or percentage. The while led flashes however. I tried holding down the power button for 3 minutes and all that happened is the LED would periodically stop blinking for a few seconds. I've left it charging for almost 24 hours and still nothing.
