The dial will move through the cycles, but it won’t agaitate, and will fill with water and spin only if I remove the dial and pull hard with pliers. I’m not sure of the part I need.

Make sure all your connectors are fully in place, especially the switch you are having a problem with. If the wiring appears to but secure and it still doesn't work, replace the switch. To find that part, we need to know your exact model number and which switch you are having issues with.
