Why is the solenoid overheating and smoking?
My Whirlpool top loader washing machine wouldn't go to the spin cycle. I changed the timer with no luck. I changed the solenoid, which went bad a year ago and was changed, and I got one load out of it. The second load, mid cycle, made the solenoid get hot and started smoking. I reinstalled the older solenoid and the machine started and this solenoid started getting very hot. What is going on?
Model: Whirlpool Stylemaster No. 4213631

I may have mis named the unit. It's the capacitor in the left side of the washer control panel. It's a whirlpool heavy duty large capacity 6 cycle unit.

I can't find a model number, but the inside of the lid says Stylemaster No. 4213631. I pulled the motor and it spins freely, there are no damaged wires to be seen. Why does the capacitor smoke so much?

The model number of the machine is LA8860XWQ0. Is it possible the capacitor wires were crossed, causing the heat and white smoke?
