The Nintendo 3DS XL 2015, marketed as the New Nintendo 3DS XL, was released October 11, 2014 in Japan and February 13, 2015 in North America.

Where to find wifi card on new 3ds xl?

Hi, my new 3ds xl has 2 black screens that never go on even though the power light goes on and stays on. I read that in older models it was often a result of an unseated wifi card. I've opened up my 3ds xl but I can't see the wifi card, it definitely doesn't look the same as the normal 3ds / 3dsxl so I am wondering where it is and if the unseating is still an issue in the new 3ds xl.

I found one other person asking for this on here, but their answer wasn't very clear so I'm stuck.

Can anyone please advise? Thank you!

According to the teardown on step 13, the WiFi chip is on the motherboard.

I see, from the picture it doesn't look like it's something that can be unseated, it looks like it is fixed to the motherboard. Is that correct?

Thanks for your help!

It might not be the wifi card. If you have damaged ribbon cables underneath the left shoulder button, you may need repairs. I recently helped a friend with the same issue, and by messing around underneath the left button, I got the bottom screen to turn on. The top screen....I don't know. But if you get the bottom screen to work, I suggest not trying to do the same thing to get the top screen to work... *sweatdrop* (I ended up breaking it more after trying to get the top screen to work. I suggest being extremely careful. X'D)

I'll try take a look, thanks. It would be extremely helpful to know which components can be disconnected while still allowing the console to boot. Would make it a lot easier to diagnose which one is the problem. I've read about broken camera modules causing this kind of behavior as well as either screen.

You're welcome. It seems that it was the wifi card and its good to know another reason why a ds wont work. (Honestly I wish I would've thought of that XD)

I had this problem too. Even after taking the wifi chip or card off and back in, the problem would could back. Eventually I realized the wifi chip would get unseated since the foam that's supposed to hold it down was flattened, so I cut some more of similar foam down and put it inside. The issue has mostly gone away now, it only comes back every few weeks and I just have to press near the joystick where the wifi chip is located.
