A gaming laptop released in the Asus G74 Republic of Gamers series in late 2011.

Where can I find the ribbon cable to the Power Button?

A client has brought me his Asus ROG G74SX laptop and the power only comes up for a couple of seconds when pressed. ALL the LEDs light up briefly, nothing happens on the monitor, no POST, etc.

As I was inspecting the interior, I noticed the "Sumitomo-g AWM 2896 80C VW-1 -F-" (this is printed on the cable) 10 pin ribbon cable (I count ten contacts on the clips, so I assume its a 10 pin cable) is horribly crimped and might be suspect in the issue. I cannot find a replacement anywhere nor can I find a parts list or a Service manual to the laptop, just the user manual which you already have a link to from here. Its the cable that runs from the powerbutton finger board to J5601 on the motherboard.

I keep getting stonewalled from ASUS and various suppliers because they want the Serial Number (S/N) and the sticker has worn off the laptop and the client has none of the packaging, manuals, etc.

Can anyone assist? Thank you.

Sean M.

Hi,

How long does the cable have to be?

Here is a link to various pin numbers, same spec'd cables.

For example if you got the 12 pin cable as long as it was the correct length (or just a bit longer) you could peel 2 wires from it to make a 10 wire cable.

Just a thought

I did not know you can do that! I will consider that as a last resort but I was hoping for an exact replacement because I would like the tabs at either end that helps with getting them into place and securing them snugly. I measured the original cable at about 6 inches.

Thanks again for the response.

I also finally found the part number thanks to a business in the UK, unfortunately they are out of them. The part number is:

"14G124150103"

Thanks again for the insight!

You know where a left shoulder button is on a Nintendo DS? Well, on a DS, the ribbon cables are under the left shoulder button....

So you should check the top left corner of the computer.
