Coffee/water shoots out portafilter

We recently found this machine and it had no portafilter. We bought an unpressurized one.

When we try to do a shot, water and coffee grounds shoot out of the spouts rather violently and then coffee comes out. It doesn't matter how we pack the coffee or how we grind it. When we try it without grinds the water seems to come out fine. Help!

Can you provide a link to the portafilter and basket you are using? Not all baskets are compatible with all portafilters, and some require an extra piece to prevent spraying.
