Is the Pressure Sensor Broken?

The pressure sensor on my toothbrush seems to be broken, it gives constant red light even though the head isn't pressed to anything. Oral-B have asked me to clean the metal pin with warm water to clean up toothpaste build and drain the battery and recharge it again for 24 hours to fix. It doesn't work. Any fixes?

I also have a similar problem, as soon as I click on the power button the available one does not turn on but the red light turns on. I opened the device but I don't quite understand what to do. Indeed now I noticed that if I click power the device does not turn on and not even the red light. Can someone help me?

I took apart my oral b 7000 to fix this issue, pressure sensor light always on, causing a reduced amount of power. Once in the toothbrush, i realized that the advice about the wire was incorrect, at least for my toothbrush. About a third of the way down, under the mother board, is a piece of metal that creates a connection when pressure is put on the brush. I couldn't bend it back, but did try. It is now working, but i dont think its going to last. To really bend it back, you'd have to take the mother board off so you could really bend the metal.

Only if the LED turns on while the toothbrush is turned off, there is a short somewhere - likely the wires.

If the red LED lights up when the toothbrush is turned on, the problem is the pressure sensor - shown in your video (see problem #1 in the first comment).

The contacts should normally be closed by the metal spring on the end of the battery and only open if pressure is applied.

Did you remove the spring for the video?

I'd originally asked how to open this up.

I found the instructions here. Much nicer than having to use pliers:

#1 If this only happens when the toothbrush is on, the pressure sensor plate doesn’t get a connection.

It’s a a little metal spring with two contacts pressing against the motor housing and the contact opens if too much pressure is applied.

Try cleaning these contacts and the opposing area if they still visibly connect. If they are bent, you might have to take apart the whole thing to straighten them.

#2 I had a similar problem where the red light came on even with the toothbrush off, completely draining the battery over night.

Opening it up, it seemed that the metal spring created a short between the upper frame and the battery.

Wrapping the spring in some duct tape seems to have fixed that issue.

Update on the “red/green light of death“:

After the problem came back for me after a while, I took a closer look at the toothbrush.

The reason for the LED lighting up is actually a short between the metal cage and the feed wires for the LED.

These were bent into the direction of the cage in my case.

Bending the wires up now permanently fixed the problem

I have the same red light problem on one of two identical brushes. If too much pressure is applied the contact is open the red light comes on and less power is applied to the motor of the brush.

The bad brush is more flexible when even minimal pressure is applied the red light comes on. The deffect comes from too much flexibility.

I took the motor assembly off on the wrong blush and found out that some solder points broke there are four solder points on each side of the motor circled in red.

Solution is either to glue or solder if you have the right equipment. I personaly used a rubber band around the brush close to the red light to tighten the head.

Hoping that helps.

None of the above worked for me, my models internals also look a little different. Since I don't care about the pressure sensor and rather have a better battery i chose to cut one of the wires for the red led. Fixed the two parts with some tape and be done with it. Dirty but stops the red light flashing (forever) if your problem is constantly flashing while off.

I have one of the newer models with li ion battery. I dropped my toothbrush and pressure sensor would always be activated. The solder point circled in green had broken on mine. I soldered it back together.
