What is contained in each ear pod? Do both contain a battery?

I'm wondering why the left bud is heavier than the right.

Hi ,

Just speculating that one earbud would contain the power source and receiver and the other would contain the electronics (BT, microphone, sensors, audio amp etc) and receiver

Hey there,

The left bud alone contains the battery while the right bud contains the touch sensitive controls, accelerometer, etc.

This is why the Pixel Buds required the wired connection between them, if both buds had a battery then that would allow them to become truly wireless headphones, which I speculate (or at least hope) Google will accomplish on they're second generation of Pixel Buds.
