Samsung Intermittent black screen with no sound - New Discovery

Actually it is a Samsung UN55HU6840FXZA Series 6. I have read over 50 pages of complaints about Samsung TV's experiencing the intermittent black screen, that comes back to normal after 3-5 seconds. This just started on my 3 yr old TV. After trying all the purported solutions including resetting from both the regular menu and the service menu, I have made an interesting discovery. When I begin to experience the black screen issue, regardless of the device or HDMI port (source) I am on, if I toggle to another source, and then come back to the source I was having the problems on, it stops having the issue, at least for a while.

QUESTION: What would cause the HDMI inputs from losing a signal intermittently?
