iPhone 4 maps app makes tapping sound then the voice stutters

When using the maps app by directly entering an address, sometimes the app starts making a tapping sound and the voice starts to stutter, go-go-go-go-go, etc.

I have to power down the phone and restart it to make it stop.

It'll work ok after that, then on a subsequent random use it will geek out again.

Any ideas?
