Power Mac (M8570) cant load 10.5, unless ram removed

runs 10.4.11, well, but will only load 10.5 if I remove 3 of the 4 ram chips. When I replace them it is unstable (4x 512 ram), so restarted on 10.4.11.

What causes this; change the ram, or run on 512 Mb, or leave on 10.4.11 ?

You should not have to remove the RAM. Load the RAM largest should be closest to the processor and then in descending order. Go to your system profiler (more info) and look at the RAM. Make sure they are all PC133 and the same type. One or more of the chips may be bad or the wrong one.

after a long and troubled time

the problem was a dodgey ran stick.[even thuogh the about this mac registered them all]

took them all out and replaced them one at a time.

had a failing one, replaced it and runs beautifully.

you were right.

thanks
