How do I backup files for re-install?

Hi. Installing new HD and upgrading to Leopard for iPhone service. What would be the best way to save and prepare my files on my external hard drive, so i can just tranfer them over to the new system? Would there be possible issues do to change of operating systems? Thanks. Mike

With system 10.5 a program called Time Machine is included. I've used it for restoring backed up hard drives several times and had great success.

I know that I can use Time machine for the re-install, but what should I use for the copy: Disc Utility? Some other duplicating or cloning program? Thanks for your response. Mike

Upgrade the system first. Hook up your external drive and use Disk Utilities to format it. Ue SuperDuper to clone the drive: http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/S...
