Dell Precision M4600, a "15.6" inch laptop, part of the Dell Mobile Workstations with strong processing capabilities, was released between 2011 and 2013 by Dell computers.

Laptop makes all HDD runs at 100%

All hard drives running at 100% usage for any program (mostly "system") on new laptop. Hard drives continue to run slowly after being put back in working laptop. Unless it's because of the bios it is a hardware problem not a software one.

The drive went back to normal after playing some games. Work fine on both laptops too.

So the problem still persist . I thought it was fine after the game test but days later the drive is running at 100% usage, in task manager for simple programs. Unless it has something to do with the bois of the laptop, it is a hardware problem not a software problem. I'm positive that my test have shown that. I've ordered new SATA connectors because the old one broke off. I've also read that a bad battery could be the problem. I'll be getting a new one and some cheap hard drives for testing, might even have to purchase a working laptop of the same version as a control study (or what ever the proper term is). If any one could save me the trouble of having to buy another laptop by telling me which pins and connectors to measure and what the readings should be, that would be greatly appreciated. It will be a long time until I get the other things. Please let me know something before a spend an unnecessary amount.

@just_terrible tell us exactly what you mean by 100%. Yes, a bad connector might do that but you said you had this before you changed the drive. Let us know why you changed the HDD. Was there any issues with the read or write access. Did you have trouble with your computer or was this just based on the 100% . Post some images of what the task manager displays with your question. Use this guide Adding images to an existing question for that. What version windows are you using since my task manager displays my disk activity in MB/sec?

Hi,

You might be facing this issue due to several reasons like low virtual memory, third party software conflicts, virus threat on the computer etc.

Even though no programs or applications are running, some background services can show memory usage and disk usage. turn some of your services off and see what you get. run MSCONFIG’ and click ‘Ok’. On the General tab, click the Normal Startup option, and then click ok. I am still not convinced that this is a disk issue. I could understand that with one disk but not all of them

Sorry I'm having a hard time understanding. The test I've done to see what the problem have been 1. check if the original drive was bad by cloning it to a new one. That didn't work so I did the next test. 2. Format new drive and put a fresh copy of windows 7 (later turned to windows 10). Just to check if it was a software problem with what was on the original drive. That too didn't work. 3. Check if it's a problem with the laptop it's self by taking a working hard drive, from a working laptop, and putting into this other laptop. The laptop cause the known to be working hard drive to show the same symptoms. Then when I put It back into my working laptop, the hdd continues to show problems. From these test I only see it pointing to the laptop it's self to have problems.

So could you clarify for me. When you say it could be a "software" or "virus" problem. Are these things that are on the laptop's bois that can transfer themselves to my hard drives?
