Why does it no longer boot?

Mac was booting to login screen then just simply stopped booting up after I selected the guest login and it rebooted. How do I get it to boot again?

Mid 2012 Airs-- Not really affected by board issues that would effect booting. I have seen solid state drives fail in these. It is also possible that your trackpad and keyboard have and issue and are preventing boot.

Unless of course it is not powering on. Then we may have a board issue going on. Do you hear a chime when it starts or is it stone dead? In the case of it being stone dead, it is probably a board issue..

Hanging halfway though boot with the ability to force shut it off by holding the power button = SSD

Hanging halfway through boot with no ability to force shut it off = probably keyboard /trackpad / flex cable

Not powering on and no chime = board issue. In the case of this laptop given it's age my guess would be the ISL chip that handles battery charging and generates the main power rail of the computer. Simple chip to replace if you find someone with the proper skillset.

Excellent, Don't know how it would go from booting to a board fail just because I selected the guest user. I have also read that corrupted SMC can cause it to not power on. I am in AZ so I donn't know anyone doing board level repairs. Most shops just want to sell a MLB replacement. Your thoughts?

1. You force it to power off, restart and try again to boot in your session

2. PRAAM reset:

Shut down the computer.

Press the power button.

Before the grey screen appears, press the Command, Option, P, and R keys at the same time.

Hold the keys until your computer restarts and you hear the startup sound a second time.

Release the keys.

3.Remove the backplate, disconnect and reconect the battery and try again (you can use this guide from 1 to step 3

Well this answer isn't helpful because I can't force it to power down. It isn't even starting up. So how do I get it to start up.

I have tried removing the battery. It is almost like the machine just died. I don't want to toss this if it can be repaired.
